Dear Yosemite Indian,
I wanted to thank you for this excellent and fascinating blog. I am a nature writer seeking to learn as much about the Mono Lake and Tioga Pass regions as possible, and I am familiar with many of the historical figures you mention, but I was not aware of the misrepresentation of Paiutes as Miwoks. I mentioned your blog last time I went to the Yosemite Museum (I don’t know the name of the person I spoke with) and they didn’t seem to know about it.
Also, I wondered if you have any commentary on Ella Cain’s history and stories about Paiute basketmakers and Captain Jack at Mono Lake or about the book The Man from Mono and its mentions of Paiutes.
Thank you again for your analyses and research and for sharing information on your culture.
Yours,
Anna Mills
